In order to celebrate Scotland's Year of Homecoming 2009, we are holding a sponsored family walk on Sunday 24th May. The walk will leave from the Swimming Pool Car Park, Greenside, Peebles at 10am and follow the route of the Peebles Burgh Bounds, similar to the route of the Cornet's Canter on Beltane Wednesday evening, finishing on Tweed Green.
As this is a family walk, we would ask that adults accompany all children. The route is roughly 6 miles and should be completed in an approximate time of three and half hours.
There will be an opportunity to stop for a picnic lunch in the car park at the top of Manor Sware. Lunch packs will be available to buy from the Peebles March Riding Association for a cost of £2 per pack (Includes a filled roll, crisps and a carton of juice).
The purpose of the walk is to celebrate Homecoming Scotland whilst raising awareness and promoting the marvellous spectacle of the Beltane Festival prior to the event. We understand that over the past few years there have been many families who have made Peebles their home and we believe that this will be an ideal opportunity to learn more about your surroundings and the traditions of our Town.
Money raised by this event will be split between the Peebles March Riding & Beltane Queen Festival Committee and the Peebles Ex-Cornets Association. This will ensure that our festival will continue to grow and be prosperous for years to come and your support will help future Queens and Cornets in the making.
If this walk is a success we hope that it will become an annual event. We have already been informed that next year Peebles has been chosen to be the "Walking Town" of the Borders, this event will be held in September 2010 and with your help we aim to make this walk a focal part of next years celebrations.
On the day this walk will be marshalled and supervised and our hope is that your family will get on their walking boots and join us for a great day out in Peebles. There will be representatives from Homecoming Scotland and the local press and media have been invited along. On completing the walk everyone will receive a certificate and a Homecoming Scotland memento.
Please dig deep and support your Beltane Festival, but most of all we want this to be a fun family walk.
Thank you for your support.
