An excellent show featuring some old favourite acts and showcasing some new local talent amiably hosted by Ian Reid finally settled many arguments and closed discussions in the village when the Whipman Play Society secretary, Graham Tulloch, announced that the Whipman and Lass Elect for 2009 were Tommy Davidson and Angela Edwards.
A resounding cheer raised the roof of the packed hall as the smiling couple walked on to the stage. The secret was out.
The current Whipman, Gareth Edwards, had spoken to the audience earlier of his Year, now drawing to a close; of the many friends he had made and the memories he had gathered as he travelled around the borders representing the district of West Linton.
Gareth spoke, without notes, of his term in office with affection and pride. He thanked his Lass, Tracey, for her support and hoped that the Whipman Elect would get the same support from the district as he had.
Tommy Davidson attended West Linton Primary and Peebles High. He obtained an Honours Degree in Civil Engineering from Strathclyde University and qualified as a Chartered Engineer. Tommy recently received his 30 year long service award from Scottish Water where he is an Infrastructure Programme Manager.
Tommy left the West Linton in 1979 but "came home" in 2001. His passions are: family time, walking our dogs, community involvement, football, tap dancing (badly!) and socialising.
Angela Edwards: Born and brought up in West Linton Angela also attended West Linton Primary and Peebles High. She trained as a General Nurse at the old Edinburgh Royal Infirmary from 1981 to 1984. Angela moved to England shortly after qualifying, specialising in cardiology.
After some time spent travelling abroad Angela returned to Scotland in 1994 and in 2001 decided to "come home" to my family and friends in West Linton. This is when she met Tommy (again) and they now have our two fantastic girls; Libby and Zoe.
Angela currently work in cardiology at the new Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but still finds time to dance (tap & jazz), do needlecraft, swim and take an active part in our community
