The West Linton Ride Out is on June 5^th 2010, however the “Week” will run from the 4^th to the 12^th June, with the addition of May 30th -

The Ride Out is always the first Saturday in June. The Installation being the Friday before the first Saturday in June.

Main Ride Out: Saturday 5th June 10.30am from Howieson Hall Farm, Station Road, West Linton.
Ride expected to return to the village at approximately 3.30pm

Installation of Whipman & Lass 2010: Friday 4th June 7.30pm, Lower Green, West Linton
Saturday 5th June Family Fun Day 2pm, Lower Green, West Linton
Sunday 6th June Kirking of the Whipman - time & location to be announced
Sunday 6th June Family Cycle Ride Out 10.30am
Wednesday 9th June 7pm, Bogie & Wheelbarrow races Lower Green, West Linton
Saturday 12th June 1pm, Sports Day Lower Green, West Linton.

Selection details of the West Linton Whipman:

When is selection:

Who makes the selection:

Residents of the district including the villages of West Linton, Carlops, Newlands, Kirkurd, Lamancha and Dolphintonvote on their choice of Whipman in a secret ballot, the results of which are counted by the Selection Committee (comprising the President and Chairman of the Society and the current Whipman). There is no candidate list, canvassing or hustings but lots of discussion takes place in the community.

How is the new principle notified:

A representative of the Selection Committee invites the nominated person to be that years Whipman.

Other selection traditions:

The selection is kept secret until the evening of the Introduction Concert in mid-April and is one of the highlights of the districts year.
